LOCAL NOT-FOR-PROFIT MERCY HAVEN INC. HOSTS 9TH ANNUAL FUNDRAISER THAT BRINGS A NEW MEANING TO GOING GREEN!
Â
(Hauppauge, NY) On June 5th 2008, Mercy Haven, Inc. of Islip Terrace hosted their 9th Annual Golf Outing and Cactus Salon Spa Day. The purpose of the event was to raise funds to support and maintain the quality of Mercy Haven’s programs, which affect our neighbors and our communities.
Â
Nearly 150 people attended Mercy Haven’s Annual Golf Outing and Cactus Salon Spa Day on Thursday, June 5th, despite the economic hardships that we are all experiencing. Through this generous and unending devotion and support, Mercy Haven, Inc.’s Annual Golf Outing and Spa Day successfully raised significant funds for the many services the agency provides to the vulnerable populations of the Long Island community. As a locally-based not-for-profit 501c3 organization, Mercy Haven, Inc. relies greatly on the contributions and kindness of the Long Island community. All proceeds from Mercy Haven’s Golf Outing and Cactus Salon Spa Day will go into maintaining the quality, much-needed programs that serve the homeless, the poor, the mentally ill, those living with traumatic brain injury, the elderly, our nation’s veterans, and limited-income families of Long Island.
Â
New for this year was Mercy Haven’s Putting Contest! The participant of the contest that was able to score a hole-in-one went home with a BRAND-NEW 37-INCH FLAT SCREEN HDTV! The event was also filled with wonderful prizes donated from local vendors including Atlantis Marine World of Riverhead, Edible Arrangements of Commack, the Long Island Ducks, and The Bayport Flower House, as well as so many others. Through the generosity of supporters, sponsors, attendees and event volunteers, Mercy Haven’s 9th Annual Golf Outing and Cactus Salon Spa Day was without question determined a success, regardless of our country’s current recession. For this, the agency is undeniably and greatly thankful.

Lauryn, a participant of Mercy Haven’s community-based, educational outreach program for the homeless – Mercy Unto Thousands – spoke to the guests about her first hand experience with the agency’s ability to provide enhanced stability and open doors for a brighter future for her and her children. She spoke of how drastically her life has changed since she has been able to utilize the resources Mercy Haven has provided for her family. The Breakthrough component of the Mercy Unto Thousands program partnered her with a mentor in the community that helped Lauryn to identify key factors that can lead to homelessness and set obtainable goals that she can strive to meet. She noted that her transformation was not limited to the 12-week program; her motivation and disposition is forever changed because she was encouraged to see life beyond that of which she has known.
