The EEAC Wine Press Concert Series Gets Its Groove On

Rare Groove Band to Play Pindar Vineyards

Riverhead, NY - The East End Arts Council is pleased to announce the final concert of the 2008 Wine Press Concert Series: the Rare Groove Band will play on Saturday, August 16th at Pindar Vineyards (Main Road, Peconic). Join band members James Miceli (Tenor Sax), Rod Borrie (trombone), Pete Campo (guitar). John DeWitt (organ), Jeff Brown (bass) and Kevin Twigg (drums) for a night of jazz with an emphasis on the beat—the groove—that makes people smile and want to get up and dance.

The concert begins at 6:00 pm, rain or shine. Concert-goers should bring their own lawn chairs. Picnic dinners are welcome. Wine will be available for purchase from the host vineyard. Outside alcohol is not permitted. Admission is $20 for adults. Children 12 and under are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased at the event or in advance at the East End Arts Council, 133 East Main Street, Riverhead, Monday through Saturday, 10 am - 4 pm.  For further information or to purchase tickets, call the East End Arts Council at 631-727-0900.

The term “Rare Groove” originated in the late 1980s, referring to a renewed interest in the jazz-funk of the 1970s. Sometimes referred to as soul jazz, it’s music drawn from jazz but steeped in blues, made by a number of great (although often relatively unknown) musical masters. This music sounds fresh today because its blend of organ, horns, guitar, drums and bass creates an infectious danceability.  After all, this was party music that was played not in the concert hall, but in neighborhood clubs as its artists traveled the various circuits in support of their recordings.  Much of this music has historical significance as the original source that has been sampled and reused by today’s hip-hop artists. So, it’s rare music not widely heard today (or even when it first came out), and it grooves, so it’s rare groove.

The East End Arts Council is a not for profit 501c3 organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the arts on the East End of Long Island. The programs offered by the East End Arts Council are made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a State agency. The Wine Press Concert Series is supported by the Times Review Newspapers, Bridgehampton National Bank and Riverhead Building Supply.

BOBBY SAYS WE’RE GOIN’ TO THE BBP!

CHEF BOBBY FLAY OPENS BOBBY’S BURGER PALACE (BBP) JULY 15 AT THE SMITH HAVEN MALL, LONG ISLAND, NY

Bobby Reminds You to Get Your Burger Crunchified

image002.jpgLake Grove, NY  — Bobby Flay, acclaimed chef, restaurateur, television personality and award-winning cookbook author, opens Bobby’s Burger Palace [355 Smith Haven Mall; 631-382-9590] today.  Adjacent to the Smith Haven Mall located in Lake Grove, NY on Long Island, BBP presents an array of burgers inspired by Bobby’s extensive travels throughout America and love of the grill in a convenient casual setting.

From north to south, coast to coast, each BBP burger is Bobby’s tribute to America’s regional flavors and traditions, made with only premium-quality ingredients and condiments.  “At any time of year, my favorite thing to eat is a cheeseburger,” says Bobby.  “And at the BBP, I celebrate America’s variety of flavors, styles and cultures surrounding this classic staple, offering a selection of specialty burgers, served at a great price.”

Sides such as French Fries served with BBP Fry Sauce (Bobby’s own blend of mayonnaise, roasted red and chipotle peppers, and spices) and Beer Battered Onion Rings along with Griddled Cheese sandwiches, Milkshakes & Malteds, sodas, beers and other alcoholic refreshments are available to create the ultimate BBP meal.

THE BURGERS
Ten signature burgers – including the Palace Classic Burger with American cheese, lettuce, tomato and red onion; the Dallas Burger spice crusted with coleslaw, Monterey Jack, BBQ sauce, and pickles; the Santa Fe Burger with queso sauce, roasted green chiles, and blue corn chips; and the Miami Burger pressed with ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard and mayonnaise – are made with Certified Angus Beef and served on a soft potato bun.

All burgers may also be prepared with ground turkey, chicken breast or served Topless, where the burger is simply stacked onto a bed of greens without the bun.  For an additional dose of bold flavor, choose from the BBP’s selection of sauces, including Chipotle Ketchup, BBP Burger Sauce, Jalapeño Hot Sauce, Ketchup and Yellow Mustard.

GETTIN’ CRUNCHIFIED?
When dining at the BBP, Bobby reminds you to get your burger crunchified, which means top any BBP burger with crisp chips at no additional cost. “My side of chips always ended up in my burger, so developing ‘crunchification’ was natural; a burger’s overall texture is just as important as flavor,” says Bobby.  “Plus crunchification is not only fun, but it’s also a great way to create the perfect burger, bite for bite, crunch for crunch.”

Crunchified selections include the CrunchburgerÔ with double American cheese and potato chips.  Beyond burgers, the Crunch Salad with chopped vegetables, romaine, crispy tortillas, white cheddar cheese and balsamic dressing is also available.

GETTIN’ THIRSTY?
With or without real whipped cream, 10 thick milkshakes and malteds in flavors such as Cola, Vanilla Bean, Dark Chocolate, Coconut, Mango, Black and White, and Blueberry-Pomegranate hit the spot during or after a meal at the BBP. Fountain & bottled sodas, freshly brewed ice tea and lemonade are also available to quench any thirst.

For spirited refreshment, beers such as Bud, Sierra Nevada, local Blue Point Toasted Lager, and non-alcoholic Buckler; custom-blended BBP Red and BBP White wine-by-the-glass, and a frozen margarita, with or without salt, are also offered for enjoyment.

THE SET-UP
Designed by Rockwell Group, the 74-seat BBP is a nod to a classic burger joint, emblazoned with fiery red, bold yellow and vibrant green hues that Bobby is so known for.  With vivid lime green leather bar stools for seating, the BBP is outfitted with a central serpentine resin-coated dining counter. Here, guests sit at the counter, socialize with friends and other patrons, while their food and drinks are quickly delivered. Bright and visible from the outside, the counter is echoed by a dramatic ribbon-like light fixture with brown, orange and yellow stripes.  A floor-to-ceiling feature wall is a mosaic of wood, bamboo and bright green, brown and orange glass tiles.

The BBP is located at 355 Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove, NY on Long Island.  The restaurant is open daily from 11am to 11pm.  Burgers range from $6.50 to $7.50; take-out service is also available. Visit www.bobbysburgerpalace.com for further details.

Tauk - The End is Just the Beginning

Tauk - The End is Just the Beginning

Oyster Bay, NY (July 14, 2008) Long Island has always had a robust and thriving music scene covering almost every genre you can think of. The better part of five decades has seen the area give the world acts such as Mariah Carey, Public Enemy, Pat Benetar, Twisted Sister, Harry Chapin and hundreds more (it even has it’s our own Music Hall Of Fame). Now, in the words of another amazing, and maybe the most famous musician from those parts (by the name of Billy Joel) comes a band “from a town called Oyster Bay, Long Island” who seem intent on adding themselves to the roll call of success in the most fertile music scene in the world: TAUK.

The band’s name is derived from a place that most Long Islanders call “The End” - Montauk, LI - but this is only the beginning for these music school trained performance virtuosos. Their road tested act has allowed them to create original material that fans of acts such as Phish, Addison Groove Project, The Grateful Dead and Soulive will absolutely eat up. With features on Fuse, Q104.3, 102.3 WBAB, features in Newsday, gigs at Great South Bay Music Festival and at Gathering Of The Vibes among many other positive developments, the band is becoming a household name in the USA.

Here is their FUSE performance
