Riverhead, NY (July 31, 2008)—Painter and illustrator Elaine Thompson will share insights about her success as an artist as part of the East End Arts Council Speaker Series on Wednesday, August 20th at the EEAC Carriage House at 7:30 pm. The Speaker Series brings artists of all disciplines to an audience interested in how these artists have been able to make a living almost exclusively from their art. The Wednesday-evening series runs through the end of August and includes writers, painters, illustrators and musicians. The cost is $5 for members and $10 for nonmembers. Please call 631-727-0900 for more information.

Elaine Thompson is most known for her golf art. In 2002, she created an oil painting to commemorate The Black Course – Bethpage, Over the Years, N.Y. In 2003, the United States Golf Association commissioned Thompson to paint the commemorative poster for the 2004 U.S. Open, held at Shinnecock Hills, New York. She has been chosen again to create the painting representing Black Course for the 2008 US Open at Bethpage State Park. Before devoting herself to oil painting, she worked as an art director, muralist, book publisher, author, and illustrator. www.thompsonart.us
