East End Arts Council Shows Work of Photographer Sylvia Plachy in 3

Riverhead, NY –The East End Arts Council is proud to announce that Sylvia Plachy will be featured in the gallery project room for the duration of the juried photography show “3,” which will run from August 29– October 3, 2008. The nationally acclaimed New Yorker photographer will celebrate New York in three photos at a time in a dazzling power point projection as our featured guest artist. The opening reception will be held on Friday, August 29 from 5-8 pm. There is no cost for admission, and the public is invited.

Most of the work Ms. Plachy will be presenting has appeared in the New Yorker Magazine and is published by the New Yorker in a book (available through the Arts Council) entitled Goings on About Town. As Mark Singer puts it in the foreword to her book, ‘…her photos brilliantly depict behind the scenes, or just below the surface, the flow and tempo of a city populated by creatures (by no means always human) who tirelessly perform, make art, take risks, plot spectacles and stir epiphanies in the act of rendering life more interesting for the rest of us’.
