Wantagh Middle School Meets Wantagh dot LI
To spice up her E-Business class, Nancy O’Connor invites local Internet personalities to speak to her Wantagh Middle School students. “I’ve had many guest speakers over the years including Andrew Hazen of Prime Visibility and Dennis Campagna of Clear Channel” said Mrs. O’Connor. Now Wantagh dot LI can be added to her list of guest speakers.
Last Friday, the 8th grade class of 13 students were given a presentation about the origins of the Wantagh town website, it’s current features and its plans for the future. In the 40-minute presentation, all the major aspects of Wantagh dot LI were covered. Topics ranged from light-hearted, such as Abigail the official bunny mascot, to more serious subjects such as the monthly survey question that is often used as a barometer of the town’s opinion. “Not only was it an enjoyable experience” recalled Jim Colotti of Wantagh dot LI, “but it was interesting to field so many great questions from the students.”
Nancy O’Connor has been teaching her E-Business class for 10 years. Among the many items covered in the class, the students are given an opportunity to put their newly-learned skills to work by generating their own Web Pages.
Wantagh dot LI was also invited to participate in next-year’s 7th grade Career Fair on January 9. At the Fair, Wantagh dot LI will speak to different groups on the satisfaction and sacrifices of managing a website.
