Art Call to Suffolk County Residents For Exhibition at Mills Pond House Gallery

(St. James, N.Y.) The Smithtown Township Arts Council in St. James will be sponsoring The Artist Next Door, an exhibition to celebrate the character of the Suffolk County community …a spirit that rises from its citizens and determines the quality of its life. Rich history exists of the arts as a tool for evoking or expressing emotion, encouraging dialogue, providing social commentary, promoting healing, and stimulating social change.

The Artist Next Door will celebrate the residents of Suffolk County who make the arts a part of their lives and whose creative capacities as problem solvers, innovators, and collaborators will help our communities meet the social, political and economic challenges they face.  He or she may be your doctor or dentist, your firefighter or police officer or insurance agent.  They may own the local restaurant, bag your groceries at the supermarket or serve your community as a public official. You may be surprised to find out that these members of your community are also artists, actors, singers, musicians, writers, architects and more!  What they have in common is what gives the Long Island Community its character…the Arts.

We know that Suffolk communities are filled with citizens with enormous capacity for the creative process. Our goal is to highlight arts participation in Suffolk County, give voice to the role that arts and culture play in the vitality of our communities, encouraging continued support of the arts by local government and corporate funders. Suffolk county residents who participate in the arts are encouraged to partake in this celebration with the contribution of their unique artistic talents.
