Island Cinemas Installs Digital 3D Projection System
(Long Island, N.Y.) Island Cinemas, an independent 7-screen movie theater serving Suffolk County, announced today that it has installed a state of the art 3D digital projection system. The first 3D movie will be opening on February 27, 2009, with the showing of the Disney hit Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience.
“The new 3D system combines with our Dolby surround sound to create an amazingly real experience for our audiences,” said Island Cinemas President Sunil Manucha. “Since we opened Island Cinemas, we have installed all new projectors, sound systems, concessions, carpets, and seats. Our goal is to make everyone’s movie-going experience as wonderful as we can.”
The new technology gives users the experience of 3D imagery, without the clunky red-and-green glasses of older systems, and without the heavy electronic lenses used by some theaters. The new system’s glasses are light and attractive. They look and feel like sunglasses.
To bring this new technology to everyone, Island Cinemas will be charging only $10 for evening showings of Jonas Brothers, and only $8 for a matinee. Other area theaters are charging as much as $16 to see 3D movies.
“There is a new wave of 3D movies washing over the industry,” said Manucha. “We’re proud to be on the leading edge of that wave.”
