David Brandenburg to Host 7th Year at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center

(Riverhead, N.Y.) The Teeny Awards®, the ground-breaking student theatre arts recognition program of the East End Arts Council (EEAC) in collaboration with the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, will hold its seventh ceremony on Sunday, June 7, 2009. The Tony Awards-style festivities will begin at 4 pm.

“We are very pleased to have David Brandenburg of the Hamptons Shakespeare Festival as this year’s Master of Ceremonies,” said Patricia Snyder, Executive Director of EEAC. “And we’d also like to welcome Islip Arts Council as a participant in the Teeny Awards®. It’s truly exciting to see the program growing in this manner.”

“It’s an honor to have been asked to emcee,” said David Brandenburg, who has been a presenter for the awards program in the past.  “The program is a really great way to recognize how important the theatre arts are to these kids.”

The Teeny Awards recognize students’ outstanding achievement in various areas of the theatre arts. Qualified judges are sent into participating high schools to review plays and, through a scoring system based on the educational rubric form, select three nominees in each of 20 categories, such as best lead actor in a drama. Through sponsorship and fundraising, scholarships are bestowed along with the awards.
