Senator Flanagan Joins Arrowhead Elementary Students For Reading Event
(Long Island, N.Y.) Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently participated in the Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) at Arrowhead Elementary School. Reading to both Debby Cheney’s 5th Grade class and Brianna Wyllie’s 4th Grade class, Senator Flanagan joined parents and other community members in bringing the joy of reading to the students of the East Setauket school.
To celebrate Women’s History Month, Senator Flanagan read “When Esther Morris Headed West: Women, Wyoming, and the Right to Vote” by Connie Nordhielm Woolridge. The story provided the students with an insight into the efforts it took to secure women’s right to vote in America.
“It was a pleasure to be invited to take part in this important program and I hope that the children enjoyed the experience as much as I did,” stated Senator Flanagan,” stated Senator Flanagan. “As a parent, I know what an important role reading plays in a child’s development. And as a father of a daughter in college, it was great to be able to share the story of women’s history with the students. This is a great program that the entire school should be proud of.”
