May Events At The Muttontown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

(Muttontown, N.Y.) The Muttontown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (MUUF) is a small, non-creedal, Unitarian Universalist church located in Muttontown, NY. The historic church building is the former Thompson-Layton House built from 1766-1797, one of the oldest buildings in this part of Long Island. Services are held on Sunday mornings at 10:30am, and special events are held throughout the year.

The MUUF is presently enjoying the services of two UU guest ministers, Rev. Lilia Cuervo and Hollis Huston, along with a rotation of skilled interfaith ministers and an occasional lay speaker. The Fellowship is an intimate, friendly, tolerant, lively, intellectually- and spiritually-nurturing community. Come by on a Sunday morning and enjoy the service, hospitality, and the discussion circle that follows. Many feel that the famous open discussion circle is one of the MUUF’s most significant and distinguishing assets, and all are cordially invited (even encouraged) to participate. Summer services, which run in July and August, are shorter and less formal, with congregants meeting outdoors amidst the beautiful pastoral setting, weather permitting.

For May 2009, Sunday Services are as follows:

  • May 3 – Joan Schultz (Congregant)
  • May 10th – Rev. Lilia Cuervo (Affiliate Minister at UU Cong. at Shelter Rock)
  • May 17th – Hollis Huston (UU Chaplain)
  • May 24th – Frank Skala (Layperson)
  • May 31st – Norm Roscoe (Layperson)

The house has a meeting room and a coffee room, divided by back-to-back 19th century fireplaces, and is enhanced by hand-hewn chestnut beams, as well as a smaller meeting room. A full kitchen serves well for brunches, dinners and barbeques held in the fellowship room and on the brick patio and sweeping lawns. The facilities can be made available for various functions, such as lectures, concerts, fairs, workshops, classes, and other special events. If you or your organization are interested in holding an event at the MUUF, please contact President Frank Oliva at 516-944-9578 (before 8PM, please).

The Fellowship is a member church of the Unitarian Universalist Association, a free affiliation of churches covenanted to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person and to respect the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part.

The MUUF is located on the south side of Route 25A, about a half mile west of the intersection with Route 106, and directly east of Martin Viette Nurseries. Look for the white brick gateposts with our white signs and large signs for “Hunter’s Moon Farm.”
