Free Sminars That Explain Connection Between Sports and Head/Brain Injuries; Program is Available to Schools, Colleges, Camps in Nassau, Suffolk and Queens

(Rockville Centre, N.Y.) In order to fully enlighten children, teens, young adults, parents, coaches, educators and summer program organizers on how to prevent concussions and severe brain injuries resulting from a variety of sports activities, the not-for-profit Leslie Munzer Neurological Institute of Long Island has initiated an interactive lecture program that is available to middle schools, high schools, colleges, universities and summer camps across Long Island free of charge the year-round.

The program features renowned LI neurosurgeons and trauma specialists as guest speakers, including Dr. Donald S. Krieff, a board certified neurosurgeon who treats both adult and pediatric patients; Dr. Mihai D. Dimancescu, a board-certified neurosurgeon who possesses more than 30 years of experience performing brain and spine surgery; and Dr. Lee Eric Tessler, a neurosurgeon who currently serves as the chief of neurotrauma at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola.

To arrange for an experienced, knowledgeable, informative and entertaining lecturer, call Jovanna Little, executive director of the Leslie Munzer Neurological Institute of Long Island, at 516-442-3527 or e-mail her at info@lmni.org.  The organization’s website address is: www.lmni.org.

“Educating this special ‘community’ about the seriousness of brain injuries that can result from not wearing protective gear while playing sports is extremely important,” stated Dr. Jonathan L. Brisman, a board-certified neurosurgeon as well as the Foundation’s president.  “Through our collaborations with school districts and other groups, we can improve awareness of safety in sports and hopefully prevent future tragedies like the recent death of actress Natasha Richardson after a skiing accident.”

Headquartered in Rockville Centre, the Leslie Munzer Neurological Institute of Long Island was founded by Neurological Surgery, P.C., a prestigious group of 19 highly-acclaimed specialists who offer patients in Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island and in Queens, NY, the most advanced treatments of brain and spine disorders using advanced, minimally-invasive procedures.  The Foundation is seeking to be in the vanguard of organizations that educate and inform young people and adults about safety precautions that can protect the brain and spine during athletic endeavors.   The Foundation’s mission is to promote the early diagnosis of neurological diseases, improve the quality of life for Long Islanders affected by neurological diseases and help find a cure for diseases of the nervous system.
