BAE Systems Greenlawn Goes “Green”; Becomes Champion for Clean Air NY

(Greenlawn, N.Y.) – BAE Systems announced that it has signed on to be a Champion through the New York State Department of Transportation’s Clean Air NY initiative. Clean Air NY is a network of organizations and individuals across the New York metro area that is taking action to improve air quality and combat pollution in the state.

BAE Systems is working with Long Island Transportation Management to clean New York air through: an employee carpool system, encouraging the use of mass transit, and providing bike racks for employees who ride their bikes to work. The company also uses a Building Management System, which helps to conserve significant amounts of energy. They also participate in other green initiatives like: recycling, reducing water usage, and using “green” cleaning products.

Air quality is a serious problem. Studies have shown that poor air quality can lead to respiratory and cardiovascular disease, restricted fetal growth, and even premature death. According to the American Lung Association, the New York metro area ranks as the 22nd worst for particle pollution and 17th worst for ozone pollution.
