Senator LaValle To Run For Local Children’s Charity

(Long Island, N.Y.) Senator Kenneth P. LaValle will participate in an ultra-marathon in support of Friends of Karen, a charity that provides financial, emotional, and advocacy assistance for children and families faced with life-threatening illnesses.  The 120-mile run will start at Montauk Point on Saturday, May 30, at 6:30 a.m., and end at approximately 12:30 p.m. in North Woodmere Park, Queens on Sunday, May 31.  Senator LaValle has committed to participate in the first several miles of the marathon.

Melville residents, Ira Zaroff and Mark Singer, M.D., have committed to running the 120-mile marathon with the hope of bringing greater awareness to Friends of Karen. The organization began its mission in 1978 when they came to the aid of a couple whose 16-year-old daughter, Karen, was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Since that time, the organization has helped thousands of children and families through a difficult time in their lives.

“I run on a daily basis and am looking forward to running for a worthy cause,” said Senator LaValle. “I hope to reach my goal but, whether I do or not, I am happy to have demonstrated my support.”

Senator LaValle will sport his running gear and be at Montauk Point for the 6:30 a.m. start of the marathon. The public is invited to cheer on the participants.
