Sports Radio New York Celebrates 1 Year On-The-Air
Network of New York Sports Talk Shows Continues to Grow
(Long Island, N.Y.) This Monday, June 1st will mark one full year of Sports Radio New York programming at AM1240-WGBB. The network of New York sports talk shows now features 7 different shows. Two 1-hour shows are heard every Sunday night at 9:00pm. Shows are rotated each week. As of June 1st, 97 shows will have been broadcasted live from the WGBB studios in West Babylon, New York. All shows are available for download from the networks website, located at http://www.sportsradiony.com. In addition, many of the shows featured interviews are also available for download from the website.
The 7 shows consist of 4 “all New York” sports shows, led by WGBB’s SPORTSTALK1240. The Starting NYNE, The Dogg Pound, and Sports Talk Live with Frankie the Sports Guy also discuss the latest New York sports related topics. Mike Silva’s NY Baseball Digest and Baseball Talk with Carl the Cabbie and Dugout Joe cover everything related to New York Baseball. Rob Kowal’s New York Hockey Talk covers everything New York hockey during the NHL hockey season.
In an attempt to be “something different in New York sports talk”, shows often feature guests not typically heard from on the other New York sports talk shows. Former players are frequent guests on the shows- a sort of “where are they now” perspective from players that were once in the New York sports spotlight. Guests on the various shows this past year include Roy White, Mike Pagliarulo, Pat Zachry, Wally Backman, Ken O’Brien, Bruce Harper, Walt Frazier, John Starks, Pete Stemkowski, Andy Bathgate, and Jiggs McDonald. Some of the more prominent or current names have also appeared on the programs as well. People such as Ron Darling, Brandon Jacobs, David Lee, Dave Maloney, Mike Emrick, and Chico Resch.
The Sports Radio New York website has also come a long way this past year, now featuring a message board forum, and a regular blog with a variety of both established and up and coming writers. Links to the latest news from all the New York teams, as well as links to the headline sports stories from all 3 of the major New York newspapers also appear on the website. The site now even includes 3 fantasy baseball leagues, and the network is likely to run leagues for the upcoming NFL and NHL seasons as well.
Hosts and staff continue to work hard to bring quality content both on-the-air and online at sportsradiony.com, as the network looks forward to another year of something different in New York sports talk!
