Mercy Haven Supporters Rallied To Raise Over $70,000
Despite Turbulent Economic Times, Mercy Haven’s 10th Annual Golf & Spa Day Supporters Rallied To Raise Over $70,000 To Help Those Most In Need On Long Island
(Sayville, N.Y.) – On June 4th 2009, Mercy Haven, Inc. of Islip Terrace hosted their 10th Annual Golf Outing and Spa Day. The purpose of the event was to raise funds to support and maintain the quality of Mercy Haven’s programs, which affect our neighbors and our communities.
Over 150 supporters were in attendance at Island Hills Golf Club of Sayville for Mercy Haven’s 10th Annual Golf Outing and Spa Day on Thursday, June 4th, to celebrate the achievements of the agency and to preview what we have next to come! Regardless of economic situations, the event far exceeded all expectations. The weather cleared up just in time for our golfers to hit the greens, and our spa guests were whisked away in limousines for a day of relaxation and well-deserved primping and pampering at Smithtown’s T. Carlton Spalon.
The guest speaker during dinner was 14-year-old Amber, the daughter of a participant of Mercy Haven’s HEARTH Supported Housing program. She fearlessly spoke to the guests about her first hand experience with the agency’s ability to provide her and her mother with a stable environment for her to learn and grow within. She told of how much her life has changed since they moved into Mercy Haven housing. From living within settings exposed to drug users to an atmosphere that enables her to achieve, Amber is now in the process of learning three languages, one of which is Latin, and participating in her school’s literary and journalism clubs. Amber has a bright future to look forward to because of the nurturing environment within Mercy Haven that has fostered her ability to excel.
This year’s event committee worked very hard this year to ensure that this event went well and that goals were met. Since January, they began soliciting for support and raffle donations to help boost the fundraising efforts. Empire National Bank proudly sponsored the tournament. The dinner portion of the day was filled with wonderful raffle prizes donated from vendors including Harrah’s of Atlantic City, the Long Island Ducks, and Southwest Airlines, as well as so many others. There were plenty of prizes and awards including Commemorative framed flags and gift certificates to the Pro Shop at Island Hills were given to the Low Foursomes, the Closest to the Pin, as well as the Longest Drive.
