Mercy Haven Teams Up With Local Corporations To Beautify Residences That House Those Most In Need
(Islip Terrace, N.Y.) – Mercy Haven has teamed up with local area corporations, including AdminiStaff, the Suffolk County Water Authority and Computer Associates, through LIVE – the Long Island Volunteer Enterprise. Three projects have taken place at homes within the W. Babylon, Bay Shore and Bayport communities where Mercy Haven houses those most in need.
On Wednesday, June 10th, Mercy Haven hosted 10 volunteers from Administaff at the agency’s W. Babylon Community Residence to beautify the house by planting shrubbery and flowers for the residents. While the Mercy Haven Facilities Management Department arranges for regular lawn-mowing and hedge-trimming, the decorative landscaping budget often falls short. Through the volunteers’ hard work and elbow grease, the 12 participants living in that home will have a spectacular landscape to enjoy during their stay.
On Saturday, June 13th, Mercy Haven welcomed 17 volunteers from the Suffolk County Water Authority to the Pleasant Gardens Assisted Living Facility in Bayport. This home provides shelter for 26 frail and elderly adults. The project at this residence included power washing and painting the Victorian home’s front porch as well as refreshing the gardens surrounding the home to provide a serene area for the participants to treasure.
On Wednesday, June 17th, at the agency’s Bay Shore Community Residence, 14 volunteers from Computer Associates gathered to build a garden, along with benches, for the residents of the home. The 11 adults living at that home can enjoy the sunshine and warmth of the summer while sitting outside on their brand new benches while looking at their newly-planted flowers.
Long Island Volunteer Enterprise mobilizes volunteer teams from the corporate, academic and not-for-profit sectors to complete a one day project that will significantly improve the quality of life for many who live and work on Long Island. For 17 years, LIVE has matched volunteer teams with not-for-profit agencies that need various kinds of assistance. Projects for Mercy Haven are still available! Call LIVE or Mercy Haven for details!
