In Full Bloom Exhibition
In Full Bloom Exhibition July 18 – August 14, 2009
(Smithtown, N.Y.) The Smithtown Township Arts Council is pleased to announce In Full Bloom, to be held July 18 –August 14, 2009. The exhibition, to reflect the beauty and uniqueness of flowers, both realistic and representational, will be held at the Mills Pond House Gallery, 660 Route 25A, St. James, NY. STAC invites the public to an opening reception on Saturday, July 18 2-4pm to meet the participating artists and view their work.
Juror Rose Pellicano selected 42 works for the exhibit. A variety of media is represented including oil, watercolor, colored pencil, acrylic, and artists hail from across the United States…Alaska, New Mexico, Mississippi as well as 10 artists from Long Island. Ms. Pellicano awarded first place to Peggie Blizard of Dobbs Ferry NY and five Honorable Mentions to Ross Barbera (Ronkonkoma), Shain Bard (Westbury), Carol Gleason (Connecticut), Jacklyn St. Aubyn (New Mexico), and Nancy Wernersbach (Garden City). “I looked for the artist’s skills in composition, use of light and shade, movement, familiarity with the subject, technical skill in their chosen media as well as unique interpretation. These elements combined present a well executed flower painting which captures the fragile or exuberant character of the subject.”
Pellicano is a botanical artist whose work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and Japan, and has been included in numerous prestigious exhibitions at the Horticultural Society of New York, the Bruce Museum, the U.S. Botanic Garden, and Chicago Botanic Garden, among others. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, in Pittsburgh, and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Florilegium. She is a fellow of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Florilegium Society, a founding member of Art Botanica, and she teaches botanical painting at Old Westbury Gardens, New York.
