Craig Jennings Elected To Literacy Nassau Board of Directors
Craig Jennings: Mountaineer, Entrepreneur, & Noted Business Coach Elected To Literacy Nassau Board of Directors
(Long Island, N.Y.) Tina Sanacore, Executive Director of Literacy Nassau, has announced the election of Port Washington resident Craig Jennings to the Board of Directors of Freeport-based Literacy Nassau, effective July 1, 2009. Ms. Sanacore states, “Craig has been working ‘behind the scenes’ on our fund development committee, and has now joined our board, bringing with him the depth of knowledge, passion, dynamic spirit and authority that he lends to everything he does. Craig introduced Literacy Nassau to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock (UUCSR), whose congregants have become outstanding supporters of our mission. The UUCSR has recruited dozens of new adult literacy tutors to work with our adult learners; hosts tutor training workshops; and has become the new home of our Recognition Night celebration, which was held this past May in the congregation’s social hall.” Ms. Sanacore adds, “Visiting Craig’s website (www.craigjennings.com), I learned of the mountain climbing expeditions he has taken with his son Chad. I was not surprised to read this quote by his son, ‘You know, Dad, I really admire your determination and willingness to push yourself.’ This is the Craig Jennings who is now a highly valued member of Literacy Nassau’s board of directors.”
A Harvard University undergraduate, who did graduate work at Columbia University, Mr. Jennings is well known as a successful professional coach. He is also a graduate of CoachVille LLC and runs the NYC Midtown Coaching Center (www.nycmcc.com), which trains new coaches and supports experienced ones. Mr. Jennings presents seminars at the Learning Annex and other public forums on jump starting small businesses and self-discovery, among many other topics. As detailed on his website, he makes three promises to the small business owners, entrepreneurs, and small business startups he coaches: your thinking will change, you will take action, and your business will improve. During his long and varied career, Mr. Jennings has worked for CBS and Merrill Lynch, a dot.com, and a Madison Avenue advertising agency. He’s taught computers, and designed and presented a curriculum on day trading. An entrepreneur who created seven businesses of his own, including an advertising agency, a commercial deep sea diving company, a computer training company, and a consulting company, Mr. Jennings had an alternate career as a commercial deep-sea diver in Africa.
ABOUT LITERACY NASSAU
The value provided to the community, and the success of Literacy Nassau’s services, are best summed up by the organization’s students and tutors:
“I have been doing good. I can read some words. I know how to write my own address. And I know how to write my own phone number.” – Adult Learner Colita
“I feel happy coming here for reading and writing. I have a good time with my teacher. This helps me too. When we meet I use a wipe-off board, picture dictionary, notebook, English workbook and citizenship book. Now I know more. I read with my children. I am not afraid to try now.” – Adult Learner Leticia
“Upon retiring from a long and happy teaching career, I joined Literacy Nassau (then LVA) in January 1990…thinking about these last 19 years, I am pleased to have been part of Literacy. I have had the pleasure of helping to prepare other adults for tutoring, and the self-satisfaction of helping individuals rise to a better functioning level. Moreover, there is the distinct pleasure of having found many wonderful friends and co-volunteers throughout the years, for which I am profoundly grateful!” – Tutor Mary Koenig
