EEAC Hosts Masters Lucy Fradkin and Arthur Simms
Artists in Residence During Month of July
(Riverhead, N.Y.) — The East End Arts Council is proud to announce master collagist Lucy Fradkin and sculptor Arthur Simms as artists-in-residence this summer. During her mid-July stay, Ms. Fradkin will lead three workshops (Collage/July 15, Assemblage/3-D Collage Sculpture/July 17, and Personal Narrative Painting–Mixed Media Collage/July 22) on different forms of collage, an art that can be enjoyed by all. The EEAC also welcomes accomplished sculptor Arthur Simms, who will share his artistic vision in a one-time lecture and power-point presentation. This workshop series is recommended for in-service credit for teachers.
Ms. Fradkin received a 2005 NYFA (New York Foundation for the Arts) Fellowship and has exhibited extensively worldwide, most recently at Lesley Heller and Lehman College Art Galleries in NY and the Smithsonian Museum National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC. She has lectured recently in New York, Rome, and the Islip Art Museum.
Mr. Simms takes a large part of his inspiration for his human-scale sculptures, made mostly from recycled elements, from his bi-cultural Jamaican heritage and American education. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Rome Prize Fellowship, the Academy Award for Art from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Creative Capital Grant and the Guggenheim Fellowship. His most recent exhibits include the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum and commissioned work in Prospect Park.
