An Afternoon of Blues and Art
Sculptor Arthur Simms to Speak at EEAC Gallery During Riverhead Blues Festival
(Riverhead, N.Y.) — The East End Arts Council presents accomplished sculptor and Brooklyn College art professor Arthur Simms, who will share his artistic vision in a one-time lecture and power-point presentation during the annual Blues Festival in Riverhead on Saturday, July 18, from 5-6PM; all are invited to visit Riverhead for an art and music experience. The talk is free; there is a suggested $5 donation. Mr. Simms and his wife, artist Lucy Fradkin, are artists in residence at the Council this July. Ms. Fradkin will be offering workshops during their stay.
Mr. Simms takes a large part of his inspiration for his human-scale sculptures, made mostly from recycled elements, from his bi-cultural Jamaican heritage and American education. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Rome Prize Fellowship, Academy Award for Art from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Creative Capital Grant and Guggenheim Fellowship. His most recent exhibits include The Irish Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum and commissioned work in Prospect Park.
