JPMorgan Chase Grant Supports Free Summer Theatre Festival

Long Island Press Releases & News

Free Summer Theatre Festival being held from July 22 through August 15, 2009 at Nissequogue River State Park in Kings Park, New York

(Long Island, N.Y.) The West Islip-based Airmid Theatre Company, creator and presenter of a Free Summer Theatre Festival being held from July 22 through August 15, 2009 at Nissequogue River State Park in Kings Park, New York, has been named a recipient of the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) grant designed to support those organizations exhibiting quality programming, community support, and professionalism. The grant is made possible through the JPMorgan Chase Regrant Program, which helps small and mid-sized arts organizations plan more effectively and operate more efficiently. Grants support activities that build an organization’s capacity to provide services to the community.

In the words of Airmid’s Founder and Artistic Director Tricia McDermott, “We are thrilled to have received this grant from JPMorgan Chase. Their sponsorship is key to the success of the Festival and allows us to get the word out to Long Islanders and the entire metro area. JPMorgan Chase is a great corporate partner and their support of our work, and other groups, is vital to all of us, whether we make art or simply enjoy it!”

Airmid received the top grant allotment of $3,000 in spring 2009, a time frame which proved critical to the start up of the Festival. Known as the Decentralization Program, non-profit organizations and individual artists apply for grants to help strengthen the arts and cultural programs in their communities. In Suffolk County, the Decentralization Program is administered by the Huntington Arts Council.

About Airmid Theatre Company
The Airmid Theatre Company, founded in 2000, is the only theatre in the world whose mission is to recover, collect, and produce classic works by women. With these plays at the heart of its mission, the company creates a safe home for women theatre artists, and ignites broad public recognition of the essential contribution women have made to the worlds of theatre, dramatic literature, and society. By establishing the history of playwriting by women and professionally producing their work, the Company opens the door to broader discussion on women’s roles today, and in the future.
