   Dowling College Appoints Vice President, CFO and Treasurer

Dowling College Appoints Charles K. Stein Vice President, CFO and Treasurer
 
stein (Oakdale, N.Y.) Dowling College President Robert J. Gaffney announced the appointment of Coram resident, Charles K. Stein as Vice President, CFO and Treasurer.
 
Vice President Stein comes to Dowling College from Suffolk County Community College where he served as Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs since 1997.
 
“As Dowling College continues to move forward as a premiere regional institution of academic excellence, Charles Stein will add immeasurable strength to our future through his well proven expertise and financial leadership. I know first hand of his extraordinary abilities.  When I was Suffolk County Executive, he was my first Deputy County Executive for Finance, where he played a major role in bringing the County budget into balance,” said President Gaffney.
 
Vice President Stein served as Nassau County Director of Budget from 1996 to 1997. From 1993 to 1996 he was Vice President of Public Finance at Roosevelt & Cross, Incorporated. He served as Suffolk County Deputy County Executive of Finance from 1992 to 1993. He was Director of Finance for the Suffolk County Water Authority from 1988 to 1992, Chief Deputy Suffolk County Comptroller from 1983 to 1988, Legislative Analyst Suffolk County Legislative Budget Review Office from 1980 to 1982 and Supervisory Management Analyst United States General Accounting Office 1970 to 1980.
 
During the New York City financial Crisis he served as Staff Analyst for the Committee on Banking, Currency and Urban Affairs, House of Representatives. In 1997 he was appointed to the Standing Committee on Governmental Budgeting and Management of the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
 
Vice President Stein is Past President NY State Government Finance Officers Assoc., Second Vice President NY State Community College Business Officers Assoc., Past Long Island Vice President Assoc. of Government Accountants and serves as an IRS volunteer in the VITA program.
 
Vice President Stein received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from NY Institute of Technology in 1970 and a Masters of Professional Studies in Health Care Administration from Long Island University in 1997.
