Third Annual Fire Island 5K Run & Festival; Scheduled for August 9, 2009
(Long Island, N.Y.) The DiGangi Family of East Islip has announced that they will continue their campaign for a cure for brain tumors through the third annual Fire Island 5K & Festival, also known as “The Run for Rose,” to be held on Sunday, August 9, 2009.
Organized in memory of their mother Rose who passed away from Glioblastoma in 2007, the FI5K annual events have successfully raised more than $100,000 to date. 100% of the net proceeds have been donated towards research programs through The American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA).
More determined than ever to help find a cure for this devastating disease, the DiGangi family, led by Rose’s sons John (37) and Anthony (30), will once again host the 5K race and full-day festival at one of their mother’s favorite destinations, Ocean Bay Park on Fire Island.
This year’s 5K race is almost at capacity, therefore sign up to run while space is still available. The DiGangi family invites everyone to join in the after-race festivities at the Fire Island Hotel in Ocean Bay Bark, located just steps away from the beautiful sandy beach. This family-friendly festival features raffles, a DJ, live music and a barbeque in a picturesque setting.
Anyone interested in attending the festival, donating to the cause, volunteering for or sponsoring the event should visit http://www.fi5k.org/. The Web site will provide all the necessary details about this event. Information is also available on Facebook.
The DiGangi family and friends encourage everyone to “Run for Rose” and others who continue to battle this aggressive disease.
