Mike James of the Washington Wizards Hosts 5th Annual Free Day In The Park For Amityville Residents July 25th @ 1:00 PM

(Amityville, N.Y.)
Mike James of the Washington Wizards will host the 5th Annual Mike James Day (MJD) on Saturday, July 25th from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Bolden Mack Park in Amityville, New York.

The Mike James Foundation has partnered with MANNA, Rock the Block and Teen Challenge to host the largest free event the city has ever seen.  The family friendly, free day in the park includes free bbq, sno cones, popcorn, face painting, children’s rides,, rock walls, caricatures and balloon animals.  Mike James Day also features a FREE hip hop gospel concert, hip hop break dancers and a celebrity basketball game with the Mike James’ Amityville All Stars vs.  The Ultimate Sizzle Street Tour with Hot Sauce, Spyda, 50, I’ll B Right Back and other former And 1 Players.

To kick off the festivities, the Foundation will host its First Annual Golf Classic at the world renowned Bethpage State Park’s Red Course on Wednesday, July 22nd.

The Mike James Basketball Experience (MJBE) is a free invitation only, youth basketball camp held at Mike’s alma mater, Amityville High on Thursday, July 23rd from 9am-3pm.

The Mike James Day is a grassroots effort that seeks to bring together Suffolk County residents, community leaders, city officials and businesses to develop ideas that assist with providing safe neighborhoods, eliminating health disparities and promoting healthy families. This free community event engages members of the community to provide resourceful information, food and live entertainment to a very diverse audience.
In 2005 the Suffolk County city officials handed the 2004 NBA Champion the keys to the city after Mike’s financial donation to assist with revitalizing the park. On that day the park was officially renamed, The Mike James Court at Bolden Mack Park.

This gracious gift prompted James to return to the city each year to provide a day of free family fun for the residents of Amityville.  “I’ve been blessed to earn a living playing a game I love.  I learned that game on the courts at Bolden Park.  It only makes sense that I would come back and support my community.”  Mike added, “I am still very connected to Amityville.  My family is here, my heart is here.”
