Assemblyman Jim Conte Receives New York Mets Spirit Award

(Long Island, N.Y.) The New York Mets recently presented Assemblyman Jim Conte (R,I,C,WF-Huntington Station),  Dr. Sandip Kapur, M.D,  Mike Sosna, President of Long Island Transplant *Recipients International Organization (TRIO) and* Long Island TRIO Special Projects Director *Ed Burki* with the 2009 Spirit Award for their work at bringing greater awareness to the growing need for organ and tissue donations during Organ Donor Awareness Night at/ Citi Field/. 

During the award ceremony, Assemblyman Conte, a kidney transplant recipient, presented an Assembly citation to Dr. Kapur, Associate Professor of Surgery & Chief of the Division of Transplantation at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center for his work at advancing transplant medicine.  Michael Sosna, a kidney transplant recipient, and Ed Burki, who received a kidney/pancreas transplant performed by Dr. Kapur in 2000, were also presented with Assembly citations for their work at expanding organ and tissue donor awareness.
