Town of Brookhaven – Youthstock 2010 is Saturday April 24th

(Farmingville, N.Y.) – Brookhaven Youthstock will be a celebration of our Town’s young people, showcasing their many talents and positive contributions – while drawing attention to opportunities for young individuals in the Town of Brookhaven. Planned to coincide with Global Youth Service Day, the project will serve to show off all the great young people involved in our schools and youth agencies, and will encourage even more of them to become involved.

The Youthstock event, focusing on youth between the ages of 13 to 21, is scheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 PM at the Town of Brookhaven Amphitheater in Farmingville, NY. The day will feature live teen bands, an art show, dance and talent demonstrations, and an information fair. Youthstock is being planned by the Town of Brookhaven Youth Advisory Council, comprised of students from all over Brookhaven Town working with the Town’s Youth Bureau and contracted youth agencies. It is additionally supported by Brookhaven Women’s and Youth Services, Inc.

Youthstock is envisioned to be a festival, and a showcase of the many young people that do positive things in our communities every day. In addition, the information fair will serve to share opportunities that are available to young people within the Town. The information fair will host any youth-serving program or organization that would like to publicize their services, as well as youth groups that can share their positive service projects.  There will be a schedule of demonstrations and performances throughout the day, fun activities, and a planned aerial photograph, a “crowd sculpture” that will symbolize the theme of positive young people.

The event coincides with Global Youth Service Day, an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of children and youth who improve their communities each day of the year through service and service-learning. Established in 1988, GYSD is the largest service event in the world and is now celebrated in over 100 countries.
