MyLITV.com Signs on as Exclusive Media Sponsor of EEAC Teeny Awards, Will Broadcast Ceremony to 500,000 on Verizon Fios I
(Riverhead, N.Y.) – The Eighth Annual Teeny Awards© ceremony will get the full television treatment this year. MyLITV.com will produce a half hour show, covering the Red Carpet, backstage and the awards ceremony, to be held June 6, 2-5 p.m. at Riverhead High School, exclusively for Verizon’s FIOS 1, which reaches 500,000 people on Long Island. The East End Arts Council is pleased to partner with MyLITV.com as an exclusive TV media sponsor of this exciting event recognizing student theatre achievement.
MyLITV began in 2007, when founder Waldo Cabrera created ISLIP.TV in order to build better neighbors through the use of the Internet. In 2008, Islip.TV was covering events far beyond its borders, so in order to reflect its expanded reach, the company was rebranded MyLITV.com.
“It’s great that we now know what’s going on around the world, but it’s also important to know what’s going on locally. MyLITV.com, along with our FIOS 1 weekly television show, allows our different communities to easily share news and opinions with their neighbors” says Waldo.
For seven years, the Teeny Awards, a highly anticipated Tony-Award style event has been presented at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, a founding partner of the program, by invitation only. This year, the ceremony will be held at Riverhead High School and will be open to the public for the first time. Tickets for the ceremony are $20, $15 for students, and are now available for purchase online at www.eastendarts.org. Plans are to rotate the Teeny ceremony among East End high schools in succeeding years, keeping the focus on the students and the school theatre programs while allowing for larger audience participation of friends, family, and school staff.
This year’s Teeny Award nominees in categories such as Lead Actor, Supporting Actor, Outstanding Performance, Choreography, Set & Lighting Design, etc., will be announced LIVE on Tuesday, May 4 on 88.3FM WPPB (formerly WLIU) and streaming online at www.peconicpublicbroadcasting. Bonnie Grice’s radio show, Eclectic Cafe, airs from 10am to Noon, and Teeny Awards coordinator Toni Munna will join Bonnie and a Riverhead Teeny Alumni to read the list of this year’s nominees.

The Teeny Awards© is the high school theatre arts recognition program of the East End Arts Council designed to recognize and celebrate the talented theatre students across the East End of Long Island, to encourage them to pursue their dreams, and to stimulate local interest while developing an understanding of the value of theatre education in a well rounded school curriculum. Qualified, volunteer judges attend plays presented throughout the year by fourteen participating East End high schools. Students are adjudicated with the use of a scoring rubric. Categories include lead and supporting actors and actresses in drama, comedy and musical genres, as well as poster art, student choreography, and technical areas, such as lighting and set design. Five top scoring students in each category become nominees; top scoring students are the winners, who are announced at the gala, Tony Awards-style ceremony and presented with an elegant glass trophy and a scholarship.
East End Arts Council, established in 1972, is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization recognized by the IRS and the NYS Bureau of Charities. Proceeds of all events, sales, classes, donations and memberships benefit our mission of bringing the arts to everyone and inspiring our communities through service, advocacy and education.
