Dive Into Summer At Atlantis Marine World Aquarium
Aquarium Holds Dive Day Celebration.
(Riverhead, N.Y.) Join Atlantis Marine World as they kick off summer at the Aquarium over the 4th of July weekend with a nod to history and celebrate the history of diving by welcoming diver, Bob Rusnak, on Saturday, July 3.
Rusnak will suit up in traditional diving gear for a free dive into the Aquarium’s largest exhibit – the 120,000-gallon Lost City of Atlantis Shark Tank . He will be surrounded by circling sharks, a giant loggerhead turtle, a prehistoric-looking moray eel, and many other creatures during his series of presentations, scheduled at 11:00am, 12:30pm, 2:00pm, and 3:30pm. An Aquarium educator will join him on his journey and speak to guests from the bottom of the exhibit wearing more modern gear, including a special helmet that will allow for communications with the crowd.
“It’s going to be great for our guests to have the chance to watch a historic diver get dressed in his gear, including a real-life Navy helmet,” says Aquarium General Manager, Bryan DeLuca. “And on a weekend where our nation is honoring its history, we’re proud to offer this to our guests.”
The Aquarium will present shallow water diving demonstrations in their Snorkel Tank throughout the day at 11:45am and 1:15pm where one lucky winner will be selected from the crowd and allowed to suit up in historic gear and dive along with the expert in each session.
There also will be plenty of hands-on fun for kids, with SCUBA mask face painting and crafts. And guests who are already SCUBA certified are eligible for a 10% Admission discount throughout the day, simply by showing their card.
Historic diver Bob Rusnak maintains an exhibit at the Aquarium across from the outdoor Ray Bay touch tank that displays early dive equipment, including some of its gear, as well as other underwater technology. The Aquarium is open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
