   Smithtown Community Chorus Free Summer Concert Series

Community Chorus Concert Series begins July 16

(Long Island, N.Y.) Smithtown Township Arts Council and Smithtown Historical Society announce the Smithtown Community Chorus Free Summer Concert Series.  The community chorus consists of local community members sharing their talents with the community. The choir is in its 14th year and its goals are to make wonderful music, improve the vocal ability and quality of our singers, and to encourage camaraderie between musicians. The Chorus is open to everyone regardless of vocal ability or experience. All that is required is a love of singing! All concerts are free and open to the public. The 2010 Community Chorus season is co-sponsored by Smithtown Township Arts Council and Smithtown Historical Society. Both organizations are excited to link together for this opportunity to benefit Suffolk County residents and are working to nurture and develop these linkages to enhance the cultural vitality of their communities.

This year’s music will include popular choral standards by Alan Menken, George Mead, Carly Simon, Rollo Dillworth, and Sean Conor Anderson. The chorus will also perform 3 pieces by Scott P Lounsbury: Dancing With Wind on Water, My People, and In Flanders Fields as well as tributes to John Denver and the Armed Forces (August 20 & 21)

The 2010 Season

Friday, July 16, 2010 7:30 pm at the Smithtown Historical Society’s Frank Brush Barn. The Performance will be a Long Island Premiere of 3 pieces by Scott P. Lounsbury: Dancing with Wind on Water, My People, and In Flanders Fields. The Frank Brush Barn is located behind the historic Epenetus Smith Tavern at 211 East Main Street (Route 25), in Smithtown

Friday, August 20, 2010 7:30 pm at the Smithtown Historical Society’s Frank Brush Barn. The Performance will include a tribute to John Denver and a tribute to the Armed Forces. Saturday, August 21, 2010 7:30pm at Christ the King Church, 2 Indian Head Road, Commack.  The Performance will include special tributes to John Denver and the Armed Forces.

About the Conductor
Carl J Ferrara is a graduate of the Crane School of Music and SUNY Stony Brook. With over 15 years of experience as a Music Educator and Choral Conductor he is currently Choral Director for Edmund W. Miles Middle School in Amityville and Setauket United Methodist Church. Also a composer, arranger and songwriter, he has written a Children’s Musical and Full-Length Holiday Musical.

About the Accompanist
September Desmond is a pianist, music educator and choral director hailing from Medford. She has been performing on the piano since the age of 5 and has gone on to study at the Hartt School of Music. She holds an Associate’s Degree in Piano Performance, a Bachelors Degree in Vocal Performance and has completed her Masters in Music Education.  Above her teaching and performing career, which has spanned over 20 years, September is most proud to be a wife and mother to four children.
