Norway Spruce Installed In Honor Of Virginia Damianos
“Her Lovely Village”
(Stony Brook, N.Y.) In memory of devoted Stony Brook resident Virginia “Jinny” Damianos (1928-2009) a special dedication ceremony and plaque unveiling was recently held on the Stony Brook Village Green to commemorate the planting of a massive 65-foot Norway Spruce in her honor.
The magnificent specimen, donated by community members and in particular, the Damiamos family, overlooks pristine Stony Brook Harbor and will serve as Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s new Holiday Tree – the centerpiece around which the organization’s Annual Holiday Festival celebration takes place, as it has for the past 30 years. The event took place on July 6, what would have been Mrs. Damianos’ 82nd birthday, and in attendance were many generations of the Damianos family, other generous donors, over 100 guests, WMHO staff, trustees and town officials. Since Mrs. Damianos loved Frank Sinatra, an entertainer was also on hand singing many of his hits.
Inscription:
A vibrant, cheerful woman once walked these shops daily as the eagle marked the hour. Her laughter and easy conversation brightened smiles as she posted parcels, greeted townspeople and merchants. In remembrance of a kind person who saw simple beauty within the life of the lovely Village she called home.
