Verizon Goes Searching For Long Islands Most Sensational Senior

Long Island Press Releases & News

Essay Entries Can Be Posted on FiOS1 Website

(Long Island, N.Y.)
It promises to be a sensational summer for one lucky Long Island senior citizen.

That’s because starting today and running through Aug. 17, Verizon’s FiOS1 – the company’s hyper-local news channel — is on the lookout for Long Island’s single sensational person over age 62.

As part of the company’s Sensational Senior Citizen Contest, it is asking Long Islanders to nominate local area senior citizens for all of their sensational activities, whether they’re with families, charities, church groups – or any other worthy endeavors.

The senior citizen contest is the second in a series of Long Island-specific programs that spotlight the best of Long Island residents.  An earlier contest held in May identified a graduating high school senior from Merrick as the most Amazing High School Senior.

In the Sensational Senior Citizen Contest, nominations can be made by anyone 18 or older.  Entries explaining what makes a favorite senior citizen neighbor or relative so sensational should be posted to the FiOS1 website (www.fios1news.com/LongIsland.php) or mailed to Verizon Sensational Senior Citizen Contest: 1 International Drive; Rye Brook, N.Y. 10573.  Mailed entries must be 350 words or less and include the name, address and telephone number of both the nominator and nominee.

Entries will be accepted through Aug. 17.  The FiOS1 website contains all the contest rules and information.  Unlike other news channel websites, http://www.fios1news.com/LongIsland.php is open for all Long Islanders to view, and does not charge a subscription fee.

The winner, who will be announced on Verizon’s FiOS1 News on Sept. 20 and receive a $500 major retail gift card, will be selected by a combination of website visitors, who will be asked to vote on the candidates, and by a panel of judges.  The person who nominated the winning senior citizen will also win a $100 gift card.

“Our seniors are a great resource for us,” said Elaina Mango, Verizon director of marketing for the company’s Northeast region.  “We want to share in that excitement and give Long Islanders an opportunity to hear and read about one of their most involved, most active, most sensational senior citizens.”

Verizon is spreading the word about the Sensational Senior Citizen through community and other local events, postings on Facebook, and promotions on FiOS1.

FiOS1 is Verizon’s news and community channel for Long Island, and can be found on Channel 1 on the FiOS TV channel lineup.
