Fall Festival Kicks Off First Weekend
Fall Festival at Mills Pond House features theater, dance, music and art
(Long Island, N.Y.) Smithtown Township Arts Council presents its Fall Festival in the festival tent on the lawn of the Mills Pond House. Call 631-862-6575 for reservations, directions, or information or visit www.stacarts.org.
Families are welcome to bring the children (ages 6-12) for arts projects during the performance (with advance reservation only…limit one child free per paid adult. Additional children $5 each.
Bring a blanket or chair. Call ahead to reserve.
Friday, Sept. 10 – An evening of swing dancing! Members of Swing Dance Long Island will be demonstrating & teaching some basic East Coast Swing Dance moves. No partner is needed and beginners are welcome. DJ music will follow for Dancing! 7:30 pm. free admission
Saturday, Sept. 11 – Viva la Salsa! Salsa dancers Sammy Schecter & Ricardo Villa explore this lively fusion of beats and music from the Latin culture! Enjoy Salsa performance, demonstration and a participatory audience workshop. Then enjoy dancing to the live music of Long Island’s SONIDO CLASICO. 4:00 pm. free
Sunday, Sept. 12 – A La Carte Shakespeare Company serves up a delicious meal of monologues from William Shakespeare. A lighthearted treat both for the Shakespeare lover and the newcomer, some of the best bits of the Bard accompanied by a picnic dinner from Elegant Eating (included) 4:00 pm. $20 tickets (show only $10)
Saturday, Sept. 18 – Singer-songwriter Rich Broillet and fellow Long Island musicians present a magical night of music! We promise an evening of superb sounds….and a special feature song tribute to John Lennon. Don’t miss it! 7:00 pm. free admission
Sunday, September 19 – Sol Y Sombra dancers will perform a variety of dances of the fascinating Spanish Art Form Flamenco. Enjoy performance, demonstration, a participatory audience workshop. Then enjoy dancing to the live Salsa and Afro Cuban music of Long Island’s GRUPO TRES Y DOS. 4:00 pm. free admission
Saturday, September 25 – The true story of a man who became the basis for the character Captain Ahab in Moby Dick. A haunting and deeply moving dramatic monologue follows the psychological journey of the captain after the wreck and his struggle with guilt and survival. 4:00 pm $10 admission
Sunday, September 26 Ivan and Sara Terrazas have dedicated themselves to the passion and intensity of Argentine Tango. Join them for performance, demonstration, and a participatory audience workshop. Then enjoy dancing to the live Salsa and Afro Cuban music of Long Island’s THE MAYEYA BAND. 4:00 pm. Free
