(Long Island, N.Y.) Here is a list of upcoming events at the Elmont Public Library for November, 2010.

Parent/Child Workshop
A five-week program for families with children age birth through pre-school. Meet other parents and caregivers as you play with, read to, and do art projects with your child. Professionals from community agencies will be here to answer
questions about your child’s growth and development.
Thursday, November 4 @ 12:00. Registration began September 23. This is the last day of a 5 week program.
 
Math Buddies
In this one-on-one peer assistance program, High School Juniors and Seniors will assist children in grades 3 through 6 with Math enrichment topics, using library laptops to access Tudor.com and other online resources. Saturdays, November 6, 13, 20, December 4, 11 from 11:00—1:00. Children may sign up for one half-hour time slot per week. YOU MUST SHOW YOUR ELMONT
LIBRARY CARD TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM. Registration begins Saturday, October 23.
 
Afternoon Adventures (4 weeks for each age group)*
45 minutes of stories, activities, crafts and games. Students in grades K – 3 and students in grades 4 – 6 will meet on alternate Tuesdays @ 4:30. Snack included. 
Grades K – 3: November 9, 23.
Grades 4 – 6: November 2, 16, 30. 
 
Family Pre-School Hour: Circus Train
One hour of singing, dancing, storytelling and a craft. Monday, November 15 @ 10:15, 11:30 or 7:00 for families with children age 18 months—pre-school. Registration begins November 1.
 
Sleepytime Stories
Enjoy one half hour of rhymes and stories before bedtime. Wednesdays, November 3, 10 @ 7:00 for children age 2 1/2—4. Younger siblings welcome. No registration, but participation is limited to 15 children. Please arrive on time as no one will be admitted after 7:05.
 
Local Author Visit
Local Author Shirleen Evans will visit to read and discuss her new book, Momma, Are We Poor? on Wednesday, November 17 @ 7:00.
Participants will also make a craft. Children in grades K—2 are welcome to register, beginning November 3.
 
Thanksgiving Craft for grades 4—6
Make a craft for your Thanksgiving table. Thursday, November 18 @ 7:00 for children in grades 4—6. Registration begins November 4.

Tween Beading Workshop
Make a holiday gift set for yourself or someone special. Saturdays, November 20, 27, December 4 @ 1:30 for kids in grades 5—8.
PLEASE, YOU MUST COMMIT TO ATTENDING ALL THREE SESSIONS. Registration begins November 6 and is limited to 15 participants.

Book Buddies
Children age 3—6 will enjoy Thanksgiving stories read to them by young adults in the community, and will make a craft together. Saturday, November 20 @ 2:00. Registration begins November 6.
 
Thanksgiving Craft for grades K—3
Make an adorable candy-stuffed Scarecrow for your Thanksgiving table. Monday, November 22 @ 4:30 for children in grades K—3.
Registration begins November 8.
 
Fitness and Fun in the Afternoon
Put on your comfortable clothes and get ready to move in this exercise class designed just for you. Thursdays, November 24, December 1, 8, 15 @ 4:30 for children in grades 1—4. No prior registration. List of participants will be compiled one half hour before program begins.
 
Family Movie @ the Library
Movie to be announced. You may call the Children’s Room @ 354-5280, ext 1005 for more information. Friday, November 26 @ 1:00 for children of all ages. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. NO REGISTRATION.
 
Book Reading and Self Defense Seminar
Local Author Marion Sossi will join us to read her wonderful story, Master Spirit and Renshi Dave Herman will teach some basic self defense techniques. Please remember to wear loose-fitting clothing. Monday, November 29 @ 4:30 for children in grades 4—6. Registration begins November 15.
 
PlayHooray Kids and PlayHooray Baby and Me
Music and Fun for your little one! Tuesdays, November 30, December 7, 14 @ 11:30 for toddlers age 19 months—4 years old and @ 12:30 for babies age birth—18 months. Registration begins November 16.
 
BOOK CLUBS: We’ll read and discuss different stories each week and enjoy a snack.

Book Trekkers* Book Club for grades 5 and 6. Mondays, November 1, 8 @ 4:30.
The Book League* Book Club for grades 3 and 4. Wednesdays, November 3, 10, 17 @ 4:30.
 
*FOR AFTERNOON ADVENTURES AND BOOK CLUBS: NO PRIOR REGISTRATION. List of participants will be compiled beginning one half hour before each session and is limited to 20 participants. Elmont Memorial Library card holders have priority to enter before non-card holders.
