Assembly Candidate Brooks Has Plan For School Taxes
Assembly candidate John Brooks has a plan to prevent school taxes from swinging widely in the future
(Seaford, N.Y.) Nassau County residents are learning today that school taxes have increased dramatically. Some residents are seeing an increase in the range upwards to 30 percent. This information is shocking residents, as the Nassau County Republican controlled legislature scramble to fix what they call a “broken” tax system.
John Brooks, a NY State Assembly candidate has a real solution to this costly problem. The Brooks plan will help Long Island get its fair from Albany, and prevent school taxes from swinging widely in the future.
In its candidate endorsement, Newsday called the Brooks Plan imaginative and wrote – ‘His (John Brooks) plan would radically reduce the importance of property taxes in school finance, shifting the burden for “core” educational expenditures to the state, which would distribute funds on a per-student basis, taking account of regional cost differences. The state would also pay for special-needs students, and local districts would get incentives to save by sharing services.’
“The entire system needs to be reformed to allow regional cost factor’s. As a former school board member and a resident of Nassau County, I understand both sides of the argument and have a solution,” said Brooks.
“The incumbent Republican Assemblyman is apart of the problem and has no solutions. Under his watch Long Island was hit with massive cuts to school aid, totaling $81.3 million dollars in just this past year. Long Islanders should not be subjected towards a drastic tax rate increases.”
Currently the Brooks plan is only on paper, and cannot be implemented unless voters of Nassau County go to the polls on November 2, 2010.
