(Smithtown, N.Y.) Smithtown Chiropractic Neurologist and Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) Dr. Keri Chiappino announced today that she and Dr. Joanne Cesiro, a certified Iyengar yoga instructor and physical therapist, will hold a special therapeutic yoga workshop focusing on spinal wellness.
“Therapeutic Yoga for the Spine: Yoga as a Tool for Creating Wellness” will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at The United Methodist Church in Farmingdale, NY. According to Dr. Chiappino, “There is evidence that certain yoga postures offer effective treatment for conditions such as chronic pain and range of motion deficits resulting from trauma and/or the degenerative process. In this workshop, Dr. Cesiro and I will incorporate basic anatomy, diagnoses of the back, precautions and contraindications as well as “asana” or posture sequences.”
Dr. Cesiro, a yoga practitioner for over 30 years adds, “More and more people are turning to complimentary alternative medicine techniques for a wide variety of disorders, from musculo-skeletal in nature, to cardiovascular and neurological. Through this workshop we will help participants develop strength, stamina, and proper body alignment in order to help heal and promote wellness of the spine.”
The November 13th workshop will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at The United Methodist Church, 407 Main Street, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
