A Long Time Dowling College Educator Part Of Transition Effort
(Oakdale, N.Y.) Dowling College acting President Scott Rudolph today announced that Dr. Elana Zolfo, Ed. D, has been appointed interim Provost, the senior academic administrator of Dowling who oversees curriculum offered to some 6,500 students on two campuses and an academic center.
Until her appointment, Dr. Zolfo served as Vice President for Corporate Programs and Continuing Education. She is also the board-appointed Secretary of Dowling College. Dr. Zolfo was the Interim Dean of the School of Business from 2006 to 2008. She has been with Dowling College since 1993. Prior to her coming to Dowling, Dr. Zolfo worked for Suffolk County Community College in New York.
With her extensive background and experience, Dr. Zolfo has been able to develop and enhance educational partnerships between Dowling College and organizations such as Federal Express, Broadridge, State Farm Insurance Company, National Grid, New York City Transit Authority and Estee Lauder, among others.
Under her direction, the Dowling Institute provides employees of these companies the opportunity to achieve their educational goals by offering both undergraduate and graduate degree programs, on-site, in several locations in the United States. As a result of this successful program many employees of these companies have the opportunity to complete college degree programs that, under ordinary circumstances, may not have been possible.
Mr. Rudolph stated, “Outgoing Provost Linda Ardito is a nationally respected educator who brought considerable experience and insight to her position at a time of transition at Dowling. The Board, the faculty and the students all owe her an enormous debt of gratitude as she returns to her first love, the Dowling classroom. Dr. Ardito will remain an important and much respected part of the Dowling family.”
Dr. Zolfo has published in the Oxford Forum on Public Policy and has presented at a variety of conferences and seminars. Her honors include being named “Woman of Distinction” in Distinction Magazine, and she was featured in Networking Magazine. She is a member of Alpha Chi Honor Society that recognizes achievements in general scholarship and she was recently inducted into Delta Mu Delta, an honor society that encourages its members to create strong business-academic relationships.
