At Grounds and Sounds
(Long Island, N.Y.) Grounds and Sounds Café, the monthly live music coffee house in East Setauket, NY, will feature the music of blues/folk singer-songwriter Phil Minissale for its Valentine’s Day show on February 11 at 8 PM. Minissale was dubbed the “Long Island Blues Boy” when he first appeared in public on Long Island in 2006, Phil has become one of the premiere finger-style guitarists on the east coast and is now a seasoned performer, appearing at music venues, folk clubs, festivals and colleges from Maine to Georgia and recently abroad in Italy. Combining contemporary songwriting with the traditional finger styling of the blues masters, his nostalgic sound is a warm reminder of the Greenwich Village acoustic scene of the early 60s, yet he is effectively cultivating a new and younger audience. With the recording of his second full CD, Young Fool, Phil continues to build bridges between various acoustic genres, keeping the traditional integrity of the music intact, while breaking new ground with his timely songwriting.
Miranda James of The Alternate Root says of Minissale: “Phil Minissale’s home is located somewhere between an alley in the Mississippi Delta and an old café in Greenwich Village circa 1960. Uniting a bluesy finger picking guitar style with an honest folk sound, the 25-year-old channels the great legends before him while attracting a new generation to American Roots. Through Phil’s music, the blues and folk movement are no longer tales of mythical times years ago. Instead, Minissale is refreshing and reinventing traditional sounds as part of the ‘Millennial Folk Movement’ where roots, youth and heart collides.”
Tickets for this show are $12.50 and can be purchased online at www.groundsandsounds.org. Grounds and Sounds is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at Stony Brook (www.UUFSB.org), a non-profit religious organization whose mission includes support for social and economic justice. All proceeds from Grounds and Sounds are used to fund UUFSB and its mission.
