(Stony Brook, N.Y.) The Ward Melville Heritage Organization will be hosting a special interactive tour of The Thompson House, c. 1709, on May 15 at 1 pm and 2:30 pm as part of WMHO’s Navigate Your Healthcare continuing series.
The Thompson House was home to an American patriot, farmer and physician, Dr. Samuel Thompson, who treated patients in this very house during the 1700s, as well as members of George Washington’s Spy Ring. “Medicine: Past, Present & Future” will take visitors on an interactive journey through the centuries as they move through the house experiencing what it was like to be a “patient” of Dr. Thompson, learning about diseases and cures of the time. The tour concludes in the “The 21st Century” room where visitors will learn how advancements in technology, medicine and science affect the way today’s patient is treated. They will perform a “virtual operation” with Smart Board technology.
In preparation for this special tour, The Thompson House recently received a makeover courtesy of David Fortuna, Swan Cove Landscaping, who installed a beautiful new fieldstone and gravel walkway, as well as new plantings refurbished a rock wall around the perimeter of the building.
The Thompson House is located on North Country Road in Setauket. Tours are $10 pp and reservations are required. An additional tour will also be available one day in the fall.
