District Court Judge Andrew Engel Honored
For Service to Nassau County Bar Association
(Mineola, N.Y.) Nassau County Bar Association President Marc Gann today announced that the 2011 President’s Award honoree is Hon. Andrew Engel of East Meadow, Nassau District Court, in recognition for his extraordinary hard work and dedication as the Dean of the Nassau Academy of Law, the educational arm of the Bar Association.
For the past year, Dean Engel not only oversaw more than 70 Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs presented by the Academy throughout the year, he spearheaded the launch of the Domus Scholar Circle, which offers unlimited CLE programs to attorneys for a one-time fee. “Andy went way above and beyond, and worked tirelessly and diligently to get this new way to earn CLE off the ground this year,” Gann said.
As a judge in Nassau District Court, Engel presides over civil litigation cases, small claims actions, landlord/tenant proceedings, felony and misdemeanor arraignments and misdemeanor criminal prosecutions. He previously served as Principal Law Clerk to Hon. Elaine Jackson Stack, and before that was in private practice in various law firms in New York City. He is active at the Nassau Bar, lecturing at CLE programs, and has served on the Board of Directors, WE CARE Fund Advisory Board, and Community Relations & Public Education Committee. He also holds leadership positions in the Nassau County District Court Judges Association, and is active in the Brooklyn Law School Alumni Association, Jewish Lawyers Association of Nassau County, and Nassau County Woman’s Bar Association. He earned his J.D. at Brooklyn Law School.
