Port Washington Attorney Elena Karabatos Honored
For Service to Nassau County Bar Association
(Mineola, N.Y.) Nassau County Bar Association President Marc Gann today announced that the Board of Directors voted this year to present the NCBA Directors’ Award to Elena Karabatos of Port Washington for her dedication, commitment and outstanding service as chair of the NCBA Matrimonial Law Committee.
For the past two years as chair of the Matrimonial Law Committee, Elena Karabatos has consistently provided timely information and top programs and helped position NCBA as a leading source of legal information on Long Island. The committee held the first CLE programs through the NAL on the new New York State divorce rules, and sponsored programs on new mediation rules.
Elena Karabatos is a partner in the matrimonial practice of Schlissel Ostrow Karabatos, PLLC in Garden City. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a member of the Law Guardian Advisory Committee for the Tenth Judicial District and a member of the Matrimonial Practice Advisory Committee for the Office of Court Administration. She is included in the 2011 edition of “Best Lawyers in America” and was recently chosen Super Lawyer by her peers.
Active in NCBA, she just completed her term as a director on the board and continues as a member of the NCBA Delegation for the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates and the Executive Committee of the Family Law section. Karabatos has served as an editor of Recent Decisions in Matrimonial Law for the Matrimonial Law Committee, as chair of the Child Custody Sub-Committee, co-chaired of the Appellate Practice Sub-Committee, and was appointed a member of the NCBA Judiciary Committee. In addition she has been called on to participate on various task forces for the NCBA such as Lawyer Advertising, Request for Judicial Intervention Form Revisions and Membership.
Karabatos is also active in many professional associations, is called upon to lecture widely and teaches a course at Hofstra Law School and has received many honors and awards. She received her law degree from Brooklyn Law School. She is also a member of the Sands Point Planning Board.
