   East End Arts Council Presents Print Media Summer Series

(Riverhead, NY) – The East End Arts Council presents a Print Media Summer Series, which will provide a variety of print media opportunities for adult and youth artists and art enthusiasts alike to explore the art of printmaking through workshops, talks, youth camp, and a gallery exhibition. Classes will be held at the East End Arts Council School of the Arts, 141 East Main Street, Riverhead, NY; and Gallery Exhibits at the East End Arts Council Gallery at 133 East Main Street, Riverhead, NY.

Gyotaku – The Japanese Art of Fish Printing

WEDNESDAY, August 10, 11AM-2PM

An art form developed by Japanese fishermen to record the details of their catch, we use a real fish and oil and water paints to make an artistic impression of our fishy subjects. All supplies provided but wear short sleeved painting clothes and bring an apron. Materials fee- $10.00 per student. (All ages)
Cost: $38 member EEAC / $57 nonmember

printing with botanicals

WEDNESDAY, August 31, 11AM-2PM

Instructor: Jack Schwartz

Learn how to transform the beauty of nature into your very own piece of art. We will use a home-made press and the pressure of our hands and, taking plants, leaves, flowers and even seaweed, learn how to apply paint so that we get a dramatic transfer of nature onto paper and note cards. Materials fee – $5.00 per student. (All ages)

INTRODUCTION TO THE PRINTMAKING PRESS

SATURDAY, July 9, 10:30AM-1:30PM
Training for members wishing to use EEAC printing press

Instructor: Rosamaria Eisler

Generously donated by artist Bob Berks, the EEAC printmaking press is available for certified members to use to create their own artwork. This workshop will certify you to use the press. Learn the components of the printmaking press, the correct set up for each of the plates, and which papers to use. At the end of the class, each participant will be given a certificate of approval for use of the EEAC printmaking press on a scheduled basis. (Adults)

Cost per session: $25 member EEAC/$40 nonmember

RELIEF PRINTMAKING WITH LINOCUTS

THURSDAY, August 4, 10:30AM-2:30PM

Relief Printmaking is the most effective, inexpensive and exciting of printmaking techniques. In this workshop participants will learn a variety of cutting techniques, and how to transfer, cut, ink and print on paper. Creativity and ideas will result in original, hand made reproducible prints. All levels welcome. (Adults)

Cost: $50 member EEAC / $75 nonmember

MONOTYPE WORKSHOP

THURSDAY, August 11, 10:30AM-2:30PM

Explore and experiment the Monotype/Monoprint processes using a printmaking press. Participants will paint/draw on plexiglass plates using non-toxic paints. Under the guidance of the instructor, participants will experiment with subtractive, additive and chine-colle techniques as well as adding stencils and found objects. All adult levels welcome.

Cost: $50 member EEAC / $75 nonmember

SOLARPLATES

THURSDAY, August 18, 10:30AM-2:30PM

In Solar Etching, sunlight and water will be used instead of traditional acids and grounds. The light-sensitive, water-soluble polymer plates to be used in this class are environmentally safe, eliminating harmful chemicals from the studio. The student will learn the preparation, process and printing of the solarplates. The results will be a one of a kind artist proofs prints. (Adults)
