Law Firm Joins Local Hospitals and Alzheimer’s Association Long Island in Raising Awareness of Cognitive Impairments
(Melville, NY) The Elder Law Office of Tully & Winkelman, P.C. will join local hospitals and the Alzheimer’s Association, Long Island Chapter in raising awareness of cognitive impairment with a presentation of the film “You Are Here.” The movie tells the story of a family dealing with one of its members suffering from cognitive impairment.
“You Are Here” will be shown on May 8 at Huntington Hospital, 270 Park Avenue, Huntington, and on May 10 at North Shore-LIJ Winthrop-University Hospital, 259 First Street, Lower Level, Mineola. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the film showing at 7 p.m. Following the film, there will be a question-and-answer session from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. with elder care professionals and physicians. The film will be screened for caregivers, affected families and individuals who will be joined by professionals in a genuine community event.
Cognitive impairment may lead to dementias, including Alzheimer’s disease. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, approximately 5.4 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease; one in eight older Americans has Alzheimer’s, which is the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. By 2012, it is estimated that $200 billion will be spent for care.
