Assemblyman Delivers on Promise to Bring New Supermarket to East Patchogue
(Long Island, NY) Assemblyman Dean Murray (R,C-East Patchogue) proudly took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony today at the new Best Yet Market in the Swan Commons Shopping Center. The Long Island-based Best Yet is the first supermarket in East Patchogue since Waldbaum’s left the shopping center nearly ten years ago. The opening of Best Yet is a particular source of pride for Murray, who has worked tirelessly for over two and a half years to bring a supermarket to an area that until now was identified by the State of New York as a “Food Desert.”
“The opening of Best Yet is a wonderful event for our community,” said Murray. “For too long, our residents have gone without a local supermarket. Local families and seniors in Avery Village now have a place to shop for groceries without worrying about transportation, added expenses or having to get by without healthy, fresh food.”
Besides providing a supermarket to residents, Best Yet Market is expected to revitalize Swan Commons and fuel economic growth in the area. Best Yet is expected to hire 70 to 80 new employees and be the anchor store Swan Commons has been seeking to lure other businesses into the partially filled plaza.
“I expect Best Yet to create a chain reaction where other businesses enter Swan Commons, creating even more new jobs and opportunities for our community,” said Murray. “Today’s grand opening is just the first step toward reviving Swan Commons and fueling economic growth in East Patchogue.”
