Featuring Robert Strimban and Caroline Waloski
(Long Island, NY) East End Arts is pleased to announce the exciting new art show at the Rosalie Dimon Gallery, at the Jamesport Manor Inn (located at 370 Manor Lane in Jamesport, NY.) The exhibit features East End Arts members: contemporary artist Robert Strimban and master printmaker Caroline Waloski. The show opens on Friday, May 4 and will be up for viewing until August 3, 2012. An Artists’ Reception will be held on Sunday, May 20 from 3PM to 5PM at the Rosalie Dimon Gallery, where the public will have the opportunity to meet the artists. Local wines and artisan cheeses will be served. The public is welcome to this free event.
Robert Strimban has participated in one man and group shows from New York City to Key West, Florida. “Even though I am better known as a sculptor, I love to draw and paint. My greatest influence is nature. Animals — the wind — light and darkness — endless variety — the surprises and magic of rebirth. The essence of my work is the relationship of form and color. My finished work is a visual symphony that creates a personal energy of love and excitement. I always look for that one step beyond.” In Manhattan, Strimban was represented by the Ciccinelli Gallery and showed regularly at the Chelsea Hotel. Since moving to Cutchogue, he has exhibited at the Elaine Benson Gallery, Hampton Square Gallery, Sundance Gallery, Water Mill Museum, Ashwagh Hall, and Guild Hall. He has been written up in the New York Times for the outdoor International Sculpture Show at Brecknock Hall in Greenport, NY and again for the Outdoor Sculpture Show at Mather Hospital.
Caroline Waloski’s images reflect her experiences as a child, daughter, sister, friend, lover, wife, mother, and breadwinner. The intaglio prints in this exhibit are from suites, which tell a specific story mixing fact and fiction from her memories of time past. Myth and reality mix in multilayered tales. Although sometimes haunted by demons, or protected by spirits, there is always a positive outlook. Many of the images have references to water, suggesting evolution, birth, and all life’s relationship to the sea. Waloski has been exhibiting since 1998 in galleries and exhibitions throughout the US and abroad. Her work is in the permanent collections of The Library of Congress, The New York Public Library Print Collection, The Cooper Hewitt Museum, and New York Historical Society. Since 2006, Waloski is represented by the Sirens’ Song Gallery in Greenport where she is artist in residence.
