(Long Island, NY) May 8, 2012, The Junior League of Long Island (JLLI), a nonprofit organization of women volunteers, was named the winner of the Marketing Award at the 2012 Annual Conference of The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. on April 21 in San Francisco. The event bought together more than 1,000 members from 293 individual Junior Leagues from the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the UK.
“Junior League volunteers do amazing work in their communities, day in and day out,” said AJLI President Delly Beekman, a member of the Junior League of Monmouth County, NJ. “In recognizing the efforts of the Junior League of Long Island, we are saluting an effort that addresses an important issue for all Leagues, and does so in a way that serves as a model for all other Leagues.”
The Junior League of Long Island was recognized for its effective use of traditional and social media in a visibility campaign that helped attract and retain members across Nassau and Suffolk Counties. “We are honored that AJLI has recognized our Marketing efforts. Junior League members perform incredible volunteer work that benefits the lives of our fellow Long Islanders and yet most people were unaware of who we were and what we did,” said Georgia Gier, President of JLLI. “Beginning in 2010, we undertook a focused campaign to raise our visibility. By increasing our presence in the local media and through social media outreach, we increased name recognition among our target demographic and enhanced our profile so existing members took greater pride in the organization.”
