About The Testaverde Fund for Spinal Cord Injury, Inc.
The Testaverde Fund for Spinal Cord Injury, Inc. is a 501C3 non-profit organization named after Wantagh resident Joe Testaverde who was injured in a diving accident in 2000 at age 17 that left him paralyzed from the waist down and affected the dexterity in both his hands. The goal of the organization is to provide a support network and assistance for families in which a member has become a victim of a spinal cord injury, to educate kids on how to prevent such accidents and to support research. The Testaverde Fund helps individuals and their families secure assistance, information and specialized equipment that can mean a world of difference to their lives.

The Testaverde Fund for Spinal Cord Injury also runs an extraordinary project called Wheels 2 Water. The program allows wheelchair bound athletes to take to the surf with the aide of volunteers and specially equipped surfboards, dune buggy style wheelchairs and special life vests. Wheels 2 Water is helping provide physically disabled individuals with the opportunity to enjoy the recreational and therapeutic benefits of water sports.
