Scotti The author will be present for discussion and book signing. In Paris at the start of a radically new century, the most famous face in the history of art stepped out of her frame and into a sensational mystery. In August 1911, the unfathomable happened—Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa vanished from the Louvre. More than twenty-four hours passed before museum officials realized she was gone. The prime suspects were as shocking as the crime: Pablo Picasso and Guillaume Apollinaire, young provocateurs of a new art. For more than two years, the absence of the Mona Lisa haunted the art world, provoking the question: Was she lost forever? A century later, questions still linger. Part love story, part mystery, in Vanished Smile, Scotti combines her skills as a historian and novelist, and reopens the case of the most audacious and perplexing art theft ever committed. Free Admission For further information contact: 631.351.3250 VOICES AND VISIONS Contemporary Artists / Contemporary Dialogue with Tom Brydelsky Thursday, October 22, 7 to 8:30 pm Of his work, Brydelsky says, “My encaustic paintings are an investigation into the emotional responses generated by memory and the natural environment. Exploration of composition, atmosphere, texture and color all contribute to their creation. A digitally manipulated picture is printed using archival inks and paper, mounted onto a wood panel and becomes the base for an encaustic painting. It is a media that allows for a broad range of surface textures, and by its very nature, speaks of the fragility of life and memory.” Brydelsky’s mixed-media work has appeared in galleries, art fairs, and non-profit spaces throughout the United States and Europe. He has extensive teaching experience and is currently the Studio Art Lab Coordinator at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
