Aquebogue, Long Island

Aquebogue is a hamlet and census-designated place located in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. It is in the northeast part of the Town of Riverhead. The neighborhood is part of Long Island's North Fork wine region and is home to such wineries as Paumanouk Vineyards. It is run and owned by an Old World family which they produce Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet and other fine wines, from a spread of 77 acres of prime farmland. As of the 2000 census, there were 2,254 people, 872 households, and 629 families residing in the CDP. The median income for a household in the CDP was $54,453, and the median income for a family was $60,375. Males had a median income of $38,776 and only $37,750 for females. The latitude of Aquebogue is 40.944N. The longitude is -72.627W. It is in the Eastern Standard time zone. Elevation is 39 feet.

The neighborhood name derives from Algonquian for headwater. It came from a Native American word meaning “head of the bay”. According to the famous researchers in New York, there was only one registered sex offender living in Aquebogue in early 2007. The ratio of number of residents in Aquebogue to the number of sex offenders is 2254 to 1. The number of registered sex offenders compared to the number of residents in this place is near the state average. Real estate in Aquebogue is a wise option for property investment. The young students collect funds to make annual trips to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and they are well-balanced for the world of the future with modern computer facilities. The Ver der Ber Garden Center is one of the famous attractions in town that offers trees, bushes, annuals, and perennials.
