East Massapequa is a hamlet and census-designated place located in Nassau County, Long Island, New York. It is within the Town of Oyster Bay and lies in New York's 3rd congressional district. East Massapequa and other neighboring towns such as Massapequa, Massapequa Park, and North Massapequa were well known Italian mafia neighborhoods over the years. As of the 2000 census, there were 19,565 people, 6,432 households, and 5,107 families residing in the CDP. The Massapequas, (Massapequa Park, Massapequa, East Massapequa and North Massapequa) are noted for having the highest population and percentage of Italians on Long Island. The median income for a household in the CDP was $75,565, and the median income for a family was $83,373. Males had a median income of $56,032 and only $37,885 for females. East of Carmans Road, students attend Amityville district schools. While the CDP is fairly racially diverse, the two school districts serve as a split. The small portion of the CDP on both sides of Carmans Road, just south of the Southern State Parkway attend farmingdale district schools. Recreation in East Massapequa focuses on the water. Residents have an access to the Town of Oyster Bay's Florence Beach, and a few neighborhoods have smaller beach clubs for those who own houses nearby.
