EAST PATCHOGUE, LONG ISLAND

East Patchogue, Long Island

East Patchogue is a hamlet and census-designated place located in Suffolk County, on the South Shore of Long Island, New York. It is within the Town of Brookhaven. East Patchogue is the location of Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. As of the 2000 census, there were 20,824 people, 7,493 households, and 5,297 families residing in the CDP. The median income for a household in the CDP was $57,237, and the median income for a family was $64,323. Males had a median income of $45,274 and only $31,704 for females. The latitude of East Patchogue is 40.766N. The longitude is -72.996W. It is in the Eastern Standard time zone. Elevation is 23 feet.

The Patchogue Indians were once inhabited the area. In East Patchogue, about 53% of adults are getting married. A total of 67% of the houses and apartments here are occupied by the owners, not rented out. If you prefer houses that are on the new side, the town may be the place for you. The average age of homes here is quite young. Landlords in East Patchogue rent a large number of single bedroom units. According to the famous researchers in New York, there were no registered sex offenders living in East Patchogue in early 2007.

Well-known people living in East Patchogue include Giovanni Capitello (filmmaker/actor), Leila Kenzle (actress), Sylvia Porter (journalist), Edgar A. Sharp (United States Representative), Jeff Schaefer (baseball player for Chicago Whitesox), and Neal Heaton (baseball player for New York Yamkees). The racial-makeup of the neighborhood comprises of 89.48% White, 3.19% African American, 0.14% Native American, 1.94% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 3.25% from other races, and 1.98% from two or more races. East Patchogue is served by the Patchogue-Medford School District, except for eastern East Patchogue, where it is served by the South Country Central School District. There are Primary, Middle and High Schools, plus continuing education programs for adults and an emphasis on sports. The Patchogue-Medford School District has been awarded a federal grant to develop and implement character education programs. The local Chamber of Commerce with more than 400 members, Knights of Columbus Council 725, Kiwanis, Rotarians and Lions join the religious institutions to provide support and voice to residents and business people in the town. East Patchogue has also several extensive recreation programs that include a municipal pool, athletic fields, tennis courts and a large park on the shore front that is available to people of all ages.
